Professional Development

Below are a list of Professional Development trainings I have been to in the past three years, starting with the most recent:
  • Differentiation Academy
  • Implementing the Balanced Literacy Approach
  • Words Their Way, Grades K-2
  • Common Core and Essential Standards District Training
  • SIOP for Elementary Teachers
  • Common Core Summer Math Institute, Grade 3
  • The Continuum of Literacy Learning

Learning Outcomes:
  • Differentiation Academy: At this PD, I learned how and when to differentiate based on readiness, interest, and learning style. I had the opportunity to create differentiated lesson plans with the support of the instructor.
  • Implementing the Balanced Literacy Approach: I learned about the different elements of balanced literacy through modeling and direct instruction.  The essential elements we learned about are: interactive read alouds, reader's workshop, how to confer with readers, word study, and writer's workshop.
  • Words Their Way, Grades K-2: I learned how to best implement and use this word study resource.
  • Common core (CCSS) and Essential Standards (ES) District Training: At this training, we became familiar with the CCSS and ES by reading and discussing with grade level teams and vertical teams.
  • SIOP for Elementary Teachers: Here, I learned how to more effectively instruct English language learners.  I came out with a variety of specific and effective teaching strategies and the materials I need to implement them.
  • Common Core Summer Math Institute, Grade 3: This training provided me with strategies for deeper math instruction in regards to the third grade curriculum.
  • The Continuum of Literacy Learning: This training allowed other teachers and me to explore the elements of balanced literacy in regards to our specific grade levels.
