About Me

My name is Stephanie Brown, and I am a 24 year old educator who has spent the past 3 years teaching elementary students in Charlotte, North Carolina.  Teaching is not just what I do, but who I am. What other career exists where you leave knowing, each day, that you truly made a difference? This realization lead me down an educational path of which I am proud, into a career that I absolutely enjoy each and every day.

I decided I was going to be a teacher when I was 9.  I remember the classroom I was in and I remember how much I loved my teachers.  More so, I remember learning to love to read [that, and refusing to let my friends be the teacher when we played school]. Ever since then, I have always found myself in a book - whether it is for pleasure or to learn something new.  It is my hope and goal to drive more and more students into a future of books.

Since I decided to be a teacher, I have worked hard to become the best teacher I possibly could be.  I have read a variety of teaching methods books (and have even more sitting on my book shelf).  I have also attended as many professional development courses as I possibly could.  One thing I have learned about myself is that I am very adaptable to new teaching standards and methods - in my short time as a teacher, I have taught using two different curriculum standards and have had to adapt to multiple models of literacy instruction.  I have discovered that, regardless of the standards and materials I am given, I will thrive and effectively continue to meet the needs of my students.   I adapt easily to change, which is something I believe is essential in the teaching environment.  I know that I could teach anywhere and be successful.
